Obituary for John F Gimmellie

Mass of Christian Burial for John F. Gimmellie, 92, of Concord Township, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Redeemer Church, 15712 Kipling Ave., Cleveland.
Mr. Gimmellie passed away Friday, July 6, 2018, at his residence in Concord Township.
John was born Nov. 2, 1925, in the Little Italy neighborhood of Cleveland, and was raised in Collinwood, where he and his wife, Julie raised their five children. John and Julie moved to Las Vegas, Nev., for 21 years and after retiring from McCarran International Airport, then moved to Concord Township.
John was a proud U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a lifelong member of Holy Redeemer Church, American Legion and Collinwood Memories Club. John loved any social activity, was an avid golfer and mall walker. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. Married for 68 years, John now joins Julie…Together Again.
He was the loving father of John (Xiancui) Gimmellie, Anthony (Linda) Gimmellie, Cindy (Bob) Johnson, Terry Gimmellie (Brooks Hull), and Ginetta (Paul) Sharaba; cherished grandfather of Anthony (Heidi), Michael (Angela), Lisa (Anthony), Lori, Brian, Joseph (Jena), Paul, John, Rico (Heather), Jade (Andrew), and Sonny; great-grandfather of 10; brother of Carmella Peragus; brother-in-law of Mary Gamellia; and uncle of nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Julie (nee Dietz) Gimmellie; daughter-in-law, Debbie Gimmellie; parents, Tomas and Antoinette (nee Trezza) Gimmellie; siblings, Anthony Gamellia, Anna (Joseph, dec.) Balzano and Nunzio (Betty, dec.) Gimmelli; and brother-in-law, Walter Peragus.
Family will receive friends from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St. (Route 615, north of Route 2), Mentor. Burial will be in Mentor Cemetery.
In addition to flowers, the family suggests contributions in his name be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 8522 East Ave., Mentor, OH 44060.
