Obituary for Martin "Marty" Prendergast

Funeral Mass for Martin “Marty” Prendergast, 79, of Willowick, will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 27, at St. Jerome’s Church, 15000 Lake Shore Blvd., Cleveland.
Mr. Prendergast passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Lake Health West Medical Center in Willoughby.
Born May 25, 1937, in Cleveland, he had lived in Cleveland before moving to Lake County 20 years ago.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Irish American East Side Inc., and was very involved in drug/chemical dependency programs and AA throughout NE Ohio. Mr. Prendergast had served as Executive Director and administrator of Rosary Hall at St. Vincent Charity Hospital, as an administrator at Windsor/Laurelwood Hospital, and as a counselor at Signature Health and Stella Maris.
He was the beloved husband of 56 years to Betty J. (nee Herman) Prendergast; loving father of Rae Marie (Jim) Cooper, Martin Duffy (Darlene) Prendergast Jr., Mary Patrick (Dan) Prendergast-McKenna, Michael Willis (Shannon) Prendergast, and Janet Kathleen Prendergast (Robert McVicker Jr.); cherished grandfather of 16; great-grandfather of six; brother of Ray Prendergast and Peggy (Rev. Mr. Ray) Daull; brother-in-law of Wanda Prendergast; and uncle of many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Loretta (nee Duffy) Prendergast; siblings, Kevin P. Prendergast, Bob Prendergast, Eileen Stika and Bill Prendergast; sisters-in-law, Chris, Rosemary and Maggi Prendergast.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
