Obituary for Edward R Dougherty
Funeral Mass for Edward R. Dougherty, 95, of Willoughby, will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Gabriel Church, 9925 Johnnycake Ridge Road, Concord Township.
Mr. Dougherty passed away Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, at Fairmount Health Care Center in Willoughby.
Born May 8, 1922, in Cleveland, he had lived in Euclid before moving to Lake County 13 years ago, living in Mentor before moving to Willoughby.
Edward was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II, former member of St. William Church and St. John Vianney Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed fishing and camping.
Mr. Dougherty was a 75-year member of Plumber’s Union Local 55.
Edward was the beloved husband of 72 years to Virginia R. (nee Karr) Dougherty; loving father of Melinda G. (Joseph) Frabotta, Edward R. (Barbara) Dougherty Jr., Patrick J. (Sherry) Dougherty and Jude F. (Rebecca) Dougherty; cherished grandfather of Joseph, Anne, Bradley, Christine, Lauren, Craig, Amanda, Melissa and Caitlin; great-grandfather of 11; brother of Helen (Mike, dec.) Horkan; and uncle of many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Anne Dougherty; parents, Frank and Helen (nee Kearns) Dougherty; and siblings, Frank (Shirley), Dan (Elizabeth), Joe (Carollyn), Paul (Mary), Mike, Patricia (Chuck) Stahler, and Mary (Floyd) Nelson.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at The Abbey of Willoughby, 38011 Euclid Ave. (located on the grounds of McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home), in Willoughby. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
