Obituary for Stanley Joseph Kot

Funeral Mass for Stanley Joseph Kot, 89, formerly of Kirtland, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Divine Word Church, 8100 Eagle Road, Kirtland.
Mr. Kot passed away Aug. 5, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center in Canton.
Born Aug. 16, 1928, in Lakewood, Stan spent his entire life in the Cleveland, Kirtland and Mentor areas, having been a resident of Lake County for more than 50 years. He had spent the last 16 months at the Laurels in Massillon, where he was affectionately known as “Stan the Man.”
Stan grew up in Cleveland and attended East High School. He was athletic and excelled in baseball and basketball. He had proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War, where he earned a Purple Heart. He was also a member of the Chosin Few, a Marine Corps organization remembering the deadly battle at the Chosin Reservoir.
Stan was one of the first members of Divine Word Church in Kirtland, where he served as an usher and member of the Holy Name Society, receiving the Man of the Year.
Stan’s career was as a cabinet maker and carpenter.
He is survived by his three daughters, Deborah Kot, Karen (Gary) Tabor and Donna (Joseph) Saccone; son, Kenneth (Darla) Kot; grandchildren, Amy (Dan), Kelly, Kenny (Anne), Alex, Stacy (Tim), and Angela (John); and great-grandchildren, Travis, Jason, Allannah, Isabella, Sophia, Amelia, Jacob, and John.
Stan was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Nancy Kot; and mother, Louise Benesch.
The family extends a special thank you to the Laurels, for their loving, comprehensive care during the past 16 months.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St. (Route 615, north of Route 2), Mentor. Stan and Nancy will be entombed at a later date at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville.
