Obituary for Elizabeth Parsons McMurtrie

Elizabeth Parsons McMurtrie
Elizabeth Parsons McMurtrie, 64, passed away Aug. 12, 2018, after a brief but fervent battle with cancer.
"Liz" was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and educator. She grew up in Waite Hill and graduated from Kirtland High School in 1972.
She returned to Kirtland Schools to teach Family-Consumer Science and English from 1997 to 2016 and furthered her education throughout her career, attaining a Master's Degree from Ashland University.
Liz met the love of her life, Jeff McMurtrie at Bowling Green State University. They were wed in 1976, and would go on to have four children, Benjamin, Andrew, and Bridget. Baby Sarah preceded her into Heaven.
Liz will be remembered for her nurturing spirit, her ability to listen carefully and love deeply, her subtle but cutting sense of humor (which she kept until the end), her Christmas cookies, and all the wonderful life lessons she instilled in those around her.
Liz was also preceded in death by her beloved mother and father, Ralph and Peggy Parsons and her in-laws, William and Sue McMurtrie.
She is survived by her children, daughters-in-law, Amanda and Jaime; grandchildren, Ella, Claire, Millie, Lydia and Simon; four siblings, James Parsons, Michael Parsons, Mary Rainey and Joseph Parsons; and many others who will cherish each wonderful memory of her.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby, OH 44094.
Memorial Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday at Divine Word Catholic Church, 8100 Eagle Rd., Kirtland, OH 44094. Liz will be buried at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chester Township.
