Obituary for Marjorie K Nightengale

Marjorie K. (nee Gehringer) Nightengale, 80, of Mentor, passed away Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018, at Hospice of the Western Reserve in Cleveland.
Born July 14, 1938, in Wheeling, W.Va., she had been a resident of Lake County for the past 48 years.
Marjorie grew up in Wheeling, W.Va. Her friends there still remain her lifelong cherished friends. “Russ and Marge” (as everyone calls them) married after high school. They celebrated their 61st anniversary together this summer. Having a jokester husband like Russ always kept Marge on her toes. Her love shown to her family as a wife and mother will always be an indescribable gift.
Marge gave much of herself in her volunteer work. In Wheeling, she was president of the Ohio Valley Junior Women’s Club. After moving to Mentor, she served her church with all of her heart. At St. Paul’s, she served many years as Deacon and Elder. For many years, she would shop and deliver food to families in need. She also gave her all to the music she loved. She gave many years serving as the church organist and signing in the choir. Nothing delighted her more than having a full choir singing joyfully. Marge was also a member of the Painesville Women’s Chorus.
She led the church youth group and loved helping the kids. Those show grew up around her called her “Mom N.” If she loved you, you knew it. The friends our family made in Mentor became her extended family, and those who were lucky enough to be her friend held a cherished bond with her for life.
Marge was happiest to spend time with her family and friends, but especially her grandchildren, Katie and Dominic. She enjoyed entertaining, holidays, and occasions where she could dress up and “use the good china.” She was also the Cleveland Indians’ biggest fan,
“Her passing will leave an indescribable hole in our hearts, but we were all lucky to have known her true unconditional love.” Marge was always willing to offer you a helping hand and made those around want to be a better person. “If we could say, I love you today, we know what her response would be…I love you more.”
Marjorie was the beloved wife of Russell E. Nightengale; cherished mother of Russell S. Nightengale and Melissa N. Geric; loving grandmother of Katherine M. Geric and Dominic J. Nightengale; sister of Mary Sue Anthony of Wheeling, W.Va., and Janice E. Futey of Weirton, W.Va.; aunt of Cheryl Brown, Mark Brown, Kellie White, Greg Thorngate, Eric Thorngate, Michelle Hall, Meggan Pasqualla, Caleb Futey and Justin Anthony.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Mildred (nee Falck) Gehringer.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Mentor Presbyterian Church, 5885 Hopkins Road, Mentor. A celebration of life will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the church. Rev. Sandy Seaton-Todd will officiate. Burial will be in Mentor Cemetery.
Arrangements are entrusted to McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Homes in Willoughby and Mentor.
