Gerald Thomas Vanderhide
Gerald Thomas Vanderhide, 63, of Mentor, passed away Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at his residence with his family at his side.
Born June 29, 1953, in East Cleveland, he had been a resident of Mentor for the past 32 years.
He was an avid Cleveland sports fan and traveler, and was a voluminous reader of World War II history, with particular interest in B-25 Bombers.
Mr. Vanderhide was an employee of MSC Industrial Supply Company as a solution sales executive. He was a hero to many, especially to a co-worker to whom he selflessly donated his own kidney.
He was the beloved husband of 32 years to Cynthia D. (nee Schumann) Vanderhide; loving father of Bradley Daniel Vanderhide and Brittany Diana Vanderhide; brother of Lynn (Michael) LaSpina; and uncle of eight nephews.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Margaret (nee Norton) Vanderhide; sister, Pamela E. Faehl; and nephew, Eric LaSpina.
A party (an adult open house) in his memory will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2017, at the Willoughby Brewing Company, 4057 Erie St., Willoughby. Family suggests everyone wear your favorite sports attire.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested in his name to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave., Cleveland, OH 44110, or you are encouraged to become an organ donor.
Arrangements are entrusted to McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Homes in Willoughby and Mentor.
