Obituary for David J Sweeney

Funeral services David J. Sweeney, 63, of Willoughby, will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby.
Mr. Sweeney passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018, at his home with his family at his side after a long struggle with cancer.
Born Jan. 2, 1955, in Augsburg, Germany, he had been a resident of Lake County for more than 40 years, living in Painesville before moving to Willoughby.
David graduated from Eastlake North High School, achieved his machinist certificate from Auburn Career Center, loved motorcycles and enjoyed riding them.
Mr. Sweeney had worked at Metal Seal and Products for 25 years.
He was the beloved husband of 35 years to Sherry E. (McNeely) Sweeney, whom he married Oct. 27, 1982; loving father of Michael R. (Lauren) Sweeney; cherished grandfather of Emily L. Sweeney; brother of Ben (Belinda) Sweeney; and uncle of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Marion (nee Stewart) Sweeney.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Willoughby Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave., Cleveland, OH 44110.
