Obituary for Joseph P O'Donnell

Joseph P  O'Donnell
Funeral Mass for Joseph P. O’Donnell, 87, of Mentor, will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Church, 16550 Rock Creek Road, Thompson. (Family and friend are asked to meet at church.)
Mr. O’Donnell passed away Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018, at TriPoint Medical Center in Concord Township.
Born Jan. 17, 1931, in Cleveland, he had been a lifetime resident of Lake County, living in Willowick before moving to Mentor.
Joseph was a U.S. Army veteran and member of V.F.W. Post 1500 in Willoughby. He was a proud member of AA for more than 55 years, member of St. Patrick’s Church in Thompson and member of the Irish American Club-East Side Inc., in Euclid. Joseph enjoyed and loved to sing, and participated in many “Danny Boy” contests. He also loved mowing grass and was head of maintenance (a non-paying position) at St. Patrick’s Church.
Mr. O’Donnell worked as a meat cutter/meat supervisor at Gressel’s in Willoughby, Pick-n-Pay and Finast, retiring in 1992.
Joseph was the beloved husband of 64 years, to Darlene M. (nee Gregoire) O’Donnell; loving father of Joseph D. (Darlene) O’Donnell, Kathleen M. (Dale) Minick, Timothy P. (Janet) O’Donnell, Colleen M. O’Donnell, Patrick J. (Heather) O’Donnell, Michael C. (Emily) O’Donnell and Craig J. (Jessica) O’Donnell; cherished grandfather of Tara, Tiffanie, Joe, Kerry, Eddie, Robert, Victoria, Michelle Nicole, Phillip, Shannon, McKenna, Gabrielle, Kaylee, Clancy, Holly and Brett; great-grandfather of Logan, Olivia, Vincent, Trevor, Joe, Drew, Chelsea, Lindsey, Cora, Timothy and Anthony; and uncle of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ellen Marie (nee Craig) O’Donnell; and siblings, Kay (Ed) Wissman, Eileen (Joe) Zimmerman and Jack (Reneé) O’Donnell.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
