Obituary for James D "Jim" Plescia

James D. "Jim" Plescia, 71, died peacefully in his sleep early Friday morning, October 12, 2018. He left behind his wife of 48 years, Suzanne (Berichon); children J.R. (Holly), Emily (Doug) McClure, Suzie (Brian) Stevens, and Michael (Ana Carballo-Tomé); grandchildren Jayne, Luke, and Audrey Plescia, Jeremy, Ryan, Matthew, and Michael McClure, Ryan, Joseph, and Olivia Stevens, and Maya, Luna, and Alex Plescia-Carballo; sister, Marlene (Jim) Pikus; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was devoted to his family and worked hard to give them what he felt they needed to excel in the world: faith, love, compassion, discipline, honesty, a good education, a knowledge and appreciation of music, a sense of right and wrong, a strong work ethic, joy, laughter, and the value of a dollar. He was a devout Catholic, active in his parish serving on Parish Council and singing in the choir. He will be remembered for his dry sense of humor and infectious smile, both of which he carried to the very end. He was an avid sailor, a competitive tennis player, and a lousy golfer.
Jim faced this horrible disease, which has neither treatment nor cure, with courage, strength, and dignity; setting a wonderful example for all. He is sorely missed.
Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St., Mentor,.
On Saturday morning, October 20, in the chapel of St. Bede the Venerable Church, 9114 Lakeshore Blvd., Mentor, visitation will begin at 10 a.m. followed by Mass at 11 a.m.
