Obituary for Michael A Garlisi

Funeral Mass for Michael A. Garlisi, 79, of Mentor-on-the-Lake, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Bede the Venerable Church, 9114 Lakeshore Blvd., Mentor. Fr. Tim Plavac will officiate the Mass, with a brunch will follow.
Mr. Garlisi passed away Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, at Lake Health West Medical Center in Willoughby.
Born April 22, 1939, in Canonsburg, Pa., he had lived in East Cleveland before moving to Lake County.
Michael was an active member of St. Bede the Venerable Church in Mentor, where he was also involved with the food bank, was a PSR teacher, Eucharistic minister and involved in the Bible Study program. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Mentor Council, and Secular Franciscan Order, loved reading, and enjoyed playing Pinochle and spending time with his family and grandkids. He was a winner of the “Chili Cook-Off” in the Better in Mentor Days. He also loved and enjoyed being with people.
Mr. Garlisi was a retired Willoughby Police officer, serving with the Willoughby Police Department for 28 years, retiring in 1998. He was also a Community Officer for the City of Willoughby, where he was very active with Willoughby Safety Town and truly enjoyed working with young kids, as they meant the world to him. After his retirement from the police department, he worked as a driver for LakeTran for nine years, retiring in 2008.
Michael was the beloved husband of 36 years to Helen M. “Buddie” (nee Trautman) Garlisi; loving father of Michael A. (Amy) Garlisi Jr., William A. (Loee) Garlisi, Noelle Christine (Jeff) Silva, Kimberly (Keith) Enger and Danyel M. (Heather) Garlisi; cherished grandfather of Anthony, Tyler, Rachel, Nicole, Matthew, Nicholas, Madeline, Addison, Shannon, Kristin and Matthew; brother of Charlotte Regan Garlisi, Julianne (Tom) Aquilla and Rosalie (Jack) Hanslik; and uncle of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Ann (nee Andresh) Garlisi; and brother, Phillip Garlisi.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St. (Route 615, north of Route 2), Mentor. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery in Twinsburg.
