Obituary for Gloria Marie Greiner

Our mother, grandmother and sister, Gloria Marie Elliott Greiner, passed away January 20, 2019, peacefully in her sleep at Fairmount Healthcare Center in Willoughby.
Gloria was born March 21, 1926, in Cleveland, to Grace and Leonard Elliott, the eldest of two children. Her brother, Leonard survives.
She graduated from Shaw High School in January 1944. She graduated from The Weatherhead Business School and went on to work for Weatherhead Industries. She used her skills at shorthand her entire life and was a keen notetaker at the many programs she attended and books she read.
Gloria and her husband, Kenneth Harrison Greiner, D.D.S., were married June 16, 1951, and moved to Chester Township in Geauga County shortly thereafter. She was an active member of the Geauga County League of Women Voters, Planned Parenthood and a founding member of Christ Presbyterian Church. She was a volunteer chaperone during many band trips during her children’s high school years. She was an avid tennis player and won many member awards at Chagrin Valley Racquet Club for singles, doubles and mixed doubles. Over time, she added paddle ball to her repertoire. Gloria was also a swimmer that loved to swim in the ocean. She was on the Tarpon synchronized swim team in High School and continued with a community group that performed locally for special events. She was a volunteer swimming instructor at Punderson State Park and at the YMCA in Mayfield Heights. Gloria also enjoyed camping throughout her life and visited many of the State and National Parks across the entire country. She became quite proficient at bridge and hosted many an enjoyable bridge party. Bridge became one of her major pastimes when mobility challenges slowed her down.
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth December 27, 2001; and daughter, Susan Lynn Greiner in 1965.
She is survived by a brother, Leonard Elliott (Sally), Willoughby; two daughters, Deborah Lee Greiner (JoAnn Porter) of Lakeland, Fla.; and Judy Greiner Goskey (Kenneth) of Burton; and two grandchildren, Daniel Harrison Goskey (Catherine) of Lakewood, and Emily Junk (Nick) of Lakewood.
Gloria will be interred at Chardon Municipal Cemetery with Kenneth Greiner at a later date.
The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at Breckenridge Village and Fairmount Healthcare Center for their steadfast and compassionate care and support of Gloria over the years.
We pray for the departed, devastated that we will no longer have the privilege of her presence, but thrilled that she enjoys the vision of God. May she rest in peace.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the charity of your choice.
