July 12, 1938 - March 30, 2019
Beloved Sister, Aunt/Second Mother, provider, protector, confidant, and friend. Her main goal in life was to see that those whom she cared for were safe, and above all else happy and felt loved. Survived by Susan C. Simon, Kevin (Kim), Mindy (Scott), Debbi and Sharon Simon. Also, numerous Grand Nephews and Nieces: Danny, Morgan, Tyler, Josh, Nick, Lauren, Alec, Tara, Shane, Grace, Robbie, Troy, and Ellie. Grand, grand Aunt to Novva, Micah, and Athena.
Her nursing journey began after graduating from Mount Sinai Nursing School as an RN. She continued her career as one of the first nurses in open heart surgery at Mount Sinai. From there, realizing the importance of education, she continued on by earning her BA, MA, and ultimately PhD. Over the years she held numerous positions to enhance the nursing community such as:
• President, Greater Cleveland Nurses Association
• Board of Directors, Ohio Nurses Association 1973-1977
• Faculty Member, Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, Case Western Reserve University 1973-1982
• Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, University of Cincinnati
• Associate Professor of Nursing, University of Cincinnati
It was her professional ambition to encourage and enhance those in the nursing/medical field and we are certain that there were a great many people impacted by her extraordinary efforts.
Amazingly, as complex as her professional life was, her hobbies and interests were surprisingly simplistic. Anyone knowing Judy knew that going out to eat and trying new places was her love. Some of her other interests were staying politically active, organizing reunions of her nursing classmates, and keeping in touch with them. Her best friend JoAnn Adelsperger held a special place in her heart as was evident in their daily conversations!
And finally, her loving family. They and her close friends were the most important thing to her. Not a moment would pass where she wasn’t making sure that everyone was protected and taking care of themselves. All of this was of paramount importance to her. The love she had and gave with all her heart, always outweighed everything else. She was immensely loved and deeply cherished by her family and will be in their hearts forever.
