I met George my first year sailing as a cadet from the Great Lakes Maritime Academy while on the Middletown. He was one of the first people I met stepping on board and went out of his way to make me feel welcome in a strange new world on board. His was always a smiling face and he and the second cook made a birthday cake for everyone on board on their special day. That meant a lot being away from family that year. He also interviewed me for one of the columns that he wrote about Great Lakes shipping for a paper in Wisconsin. I still have a copy of it. Thanks for being a friend George.
