Obituary for Edward Thomas Ruda Sr.
Funeral Mass for Edward Thomas Ruda Sr., 87, a longtime resident of Willoughby, will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018, at Immaculate Conception Church, 37940 Euclid Ave., Willoughby. Fr. Dennis McNeil will officiate the Mass.
Mr. Ruda passed away Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, at his residence at Breckenridge in Willoughby, with his wife by his side.
Born March 6, 1930, in Latrobe, Pa., he had been a resident of Lake County for the past 50 years, living in Mentor and Willoughby.
Mr. Ruda worked for General Motors at the Hudson Terex Division for 23 years and as Deputy Sheriff in Painesville under Mr. Cunningham. He was also the owner/operator of Ed’s Garage in Willoughby.
Ed was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of the Cold War, and was member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2886 3rd Degree. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Willoughby, where he had served as an usher, bingo worker and an Oktoberfest worker.
The family would like to thank the staff of Home Instead Senior Care, Hospice of the Western Reserve and Visiting Angels for the care and compassion shown to Mr. Ruda and his family.
He was the beloved husband of 15 years to Patricia (nee Penzenik) Ruda; loving father of Edward (Linda) Ruda Jr. of Pennsylvania and Michael (Tammy) Ruda of Pennsylvania; stepfather of Eric (Joyce) Shea; cherished grandfather of Gianna, Evan, Tyler and Toni; dear brother of Anna Lancie and Clara (Wilton) Johnson; stepgrandfather of Evan, Bryn, Camdyn, Karys, and Mason; former husband of Margaret Ruda; and uncle of many nieces and nephews. He also leaves his longtime friend, Mike Meyokovich of Pennsylvania
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Irene (nee Uher) Ruda.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
