William R. Kloss, 83, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2015, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by loved ones, his prized fishing trophies and photographs of Lake Erie.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and an avid fisherman. He was a loving husband, brother, father, and grandfather. He was nothing short of a real-life super hero, whose only weaknesses were worrying about his kids all the time and loving sweets too much.
Born March 23, 1932, in Cleveland, he had been a Lake County resident for 30 years, residing in Mentor. He was a former member of the Mentor Lagoons Yacht Club, and spent every waking moment tending to his boat, “Bill’s Bet.” When he wasn’t catching perch or teaching his kids how to hook a worm, you could find him working on his tan. Nothing seemed to worry him then besides making it home for dinner.
He enjoyed fretting over crossword puzzles and working on his golf game when he could. He told the best stories, but was much more interested in listening to what his kids and grandkids were up to.
He was the kind of man who beat two different cancers twice. He was lovingly stubborn, told cheesy jokes and loved his dogs, Babe and Buddy with all his heart. He reminds us why you can only be so lucky to have a person like this in your life.
He was the devoted and loving father of William F. Kloss (Mary Anne), Bobbi Kloss, Michael P. Kloss and Joani M. Langhoff (John); beloved grandfather of Nicole Theodore and Matthew Kloss; and cherished brother of Peg Thorpe (Jerry Orlowski), whose bond is forever unbreakable. He was also a loving stepgrandpa
to Cory, Lauren, Gabe and Josh Langhoff. He was the companion of Betty Tinker, his real life angel and best friend, the only person in the world who could convince him to get on a cruise, go to Hawaii and relax for once in his life.
His parents, Edward and Clare Kloss; and wife, Bettie Kloss (Hutchinson) preceded him in death. They are most likely arguing about who is going to pay the check at dinner right now, a traditional Kloss past-time.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Aug. 8, 2015, at St. John Vianney Church, 757 Bellflower Road, Mentor, to be followed by a Celebration of his life at Chapin Forest Reservation, Quarry Shelter (off Rt. 306), located in Kirtland.
