Funeral Mass for Betty D. (nee Nickels) Battaglia, 76, of Mentor, will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 22, at St. John Vianney Church, 7575 Bellflower Road, Mentor.
Mrs. Battaglia passed away Friday, May 12, 2017, at her residence.
She was born Aug. 1, 1940, in Weeping Water, Neb.
Betty was a graduate of Painesville Harvey High School Class of 1958, an active member of St. John Vianney Church in Mentor, and a member of their Cancer Support Group. She enjoyed bowling, bingo and playing cards. Her favorite past time was spending time with her children, grandchildren and family.
Mrs. Battaglia had waitressed for many years prior to settling into banking, first at Broadview Savings Bank and then retiring from Fifth Third Bank. After her retirement, she had worked as a clerk for the City of Eastlake.
She was the loving mother of Michael (Carolee) Battaglia, Deborah (Jack) Evans and Frank (Linda) Battaglia; cherished grandmother of Christopher Evans, Alexander Evans, Katherine Evans, Jonathan Evans, Matthew Battaglia, Johnathan Battaglia and Bradley Battaglia; sister of Roger (Marge) Nickels, Anthony (Kathy) Schillaci, Josephine Schillaci and Jack (Therese) Schillaci; and an aunt and cousin of many.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Carl Nickels and June Lorraine (nee Lowther) Schillaci; stepfather, Augustine John Schillaci; and sister, Arta June Horvath.
Family will receive friends from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 21, at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St. (Route 615, north of Route 2), in Mentor. Burial will be in Mentor Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave., Cleveland, OH 44110.
