Obituary for Michael R Onofrey

Michael R. Onofrey, 86 of Elyria, passed away peacefully February 21, 2018.
He was born in Cleveland, and had lived nearly all his life in the Cleveland and Mentor areas.
In 1963, he met and married the love of his life, Pattie and they moved to Lake County, where they lived for 53 years. After Pattie passed away, Mike moved closer to his daughter, Sherry and lived at The Abbewood in Elyria.
Michael served in the United State Air Force from 1951 to 1955 and was stationed in California, Greenland and Texas during the Korean War.
Once he left the service, he went to General Motors Technical College and became an engineer for General Motors. Mr. Onofrey worked at the GM Euclid Plant for 37 years, retiring in 1992. He enjoyed going to the casinos along with collecting coins and reading, loved music and cars, but most of all his family.
Michael is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Sharon “Sherry” and Gary Zwiezinski; cousin, Marion (Paul) Schwab; and nieces and nephews. He also leaves his cat and buddy, “Coco.”
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pattie in 2016; parents, Michael and Margaret; and brothers, Paul and Richard.
There will be a funeral Mass 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2018, at St. John Vianney Church, 7575 Bellflower Road, Mentor, OH 44060. A luncheon will follow. Private burial will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery in Brook Park.
