Obituary for John Carl Nekic
John Carl Nekic, 83, of Mentor, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018, at Hospice House of the Western Reserve in Cleveland.
Born Nov. 1, 1934, in Cleveland, he had been a resident of Lake County for the past 51 years, living in Willowick before moving to Mentor.
John was a U.S. Army veteran, member of St. Gabriel Church in Concord Township, and former member of St. Mary Magdalene Church in Willowick. He was a big “Cleveland Indians fan,” enjoyed working out, could build anything, and loved tinkering.
Mr. Nekic retired from Lincoln Electric with 34 years of service.
He was the beloved husband of Virginia C. (nee Hirsch) Nekic; loving father of Sharon Marie (Doug) Evans, David John (Jennifer) Nekic, Jeffery John (Kathleen) Nekic, Timothy Francis Nekic, John Andrew Nekic and Jennifer Anne (Michael) Kiglics; cherished grandfather of Robert Miller, Andrew Miller, Nicolas Nekic, Garrett Nekic, Matthew Nekic, Sarah Kiglics, Anna Kiglics, Carson Nekic and Cassidy Nekic; brother of Helen Nekic, Frank Nekic and Lucy Cooper; and uncle of many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary (nee Udovic) Nekic; and sister, Mary Febbo.
Family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby, with a Celebration of Life Service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Fr. Tom Johns will officiate the service. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave., Cleveland, OH 44110.
